Placer County Residents Experiencing a Mental Health Crisis Can Receive Urgent Care at New Health Center Thanks to $20,000 Grant from California Health & Wellness

Date: 08/25/22

Crisis episodes related to mental health can feel overwhelming. Often, people who experience a behavioral health crisis struggle to get the care that they need. That's why California Health & Wellness (CHW) awarded a $20,000 grant to help develop the Lotus Behavioral Health Crisis Center (LBHCC) in Placer County. LBHCC will be a new, voluntary urgent care for residents experiencing a mental health emergency.

"We are proud to support this new center that will help bridge the gap between physical and behavioral health," said Amber Kemp, Vice President, Medi-Cal Regional Lead for CHW. "With decades of experience caring for California's most vulnerable residents, we know healthcare starts at the community level and is best delivered locally."

CHW's model is built on partnering with organizations, like Placer County, that are trusted voices in their communities. Together, we identify community needs and develop collaborative solutions to reach residents where they are. We do this through tackling traditional health issues and addressing the critical social drivers of health, which are known to influence mental health outcomes. CHW and our partners aim to close health equity gaps with holistic approaches that support and treat the whole person.

"In Placer County we have been working collaboratively across mental health sectors to make behavioral health treatment more individual-centered, more accessible, more seamless and even more friendly and welcoming," said Suzanne Jones, Placer County District 4 Supervisor. "The Lotus Behavioral Health Crisis Center is a great example of the culmination of those efforts. We have great hope that many more people will be helped and lives saved because of the important work that will happen here."

Located in Roseville, the new facility is a short-term place to stay, designed to provide an appropriate level of care for those experiencing a mental health crisis. At LBHCC, individuals can decompress for up to two days in a calm environment and be treated with dignity by trained clinicians.
