Save the dates! National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is October 24-30, 2021

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch of the California Department of Public Health is hosting a webinar series during Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The series highlights lead poisoning prevention work taking place throughout California. Each webinar is open to the public but targets a particular audience or population.

Monday, October 25, 202110 – 11 a.m.Target: All local health programs. Learn about the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. Alameda and Fresno County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs will present their efforts to prevent childhood lead poisoning in their communities. The webinar will describe how they work with other local health programs to carry out their mission and objectives.Register for this session

Tuesday,    October 26, 2021

10 – 11 a.m.

​Target: Health care professionals. The webinar features the local Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit and the California Poison Control System. The presentation will provide innovative strategies for protecting children and families from toxic lead exposure.

1 – 2 p.m.

​​Target: Parents and community members. The webinar features lead expert, Dr. Jill Johnston, from the University of Southern California. She will present what lead is, how it impacts children's health, how to prevent lead poisoning and how parents can get involved in their communities.

Thursday, October 28, 2021

10 – 11 a.m.

Target: California licensed child care facilities and child care providers. The webinar features the California Department of Social Services’ presentation related to the new California Day Care Facilities Act, which sets forth new requirements for testing drinking water for lead. This session will provide up-to-date information and requirements for lead testing and funding opportunities for protecting children from lead in drinking water.

Friday,      October 29, 2021

10 – 11 a.m.

Target: Environmental professionals. The webinar features Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orange County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs. They will share best practices for environmental professionals for collaborating with local code enforcement agencies, conducting proactive rental inspections and collaborating with local communities experiencing environmental injustice.
