California Health & Wellness Plan is pleased to introduce the Choosing Wisely® initiative. The American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation’s initiative encourages providers to “choose wisely” when it comes to providing care. The initiative promotes care that is supported by evidence, not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received, not harmful and truly necessary.1
Establish a rapport to help build trust
Office visits are a good time to talk with patients about avoiding medical tests, treatments and procedures they may not need. Talk openly about overuse and care quality to build patient-provider trust.
Conversation about these topics is especially important to protect underserved and vulnerable populations. Such populations can experience a lack of needed care coupled with overuse of less effective, poor quality care.2
