22-666 Submit Claims-Related Attachments via the Availity Portal

This information applies to Physicians, Participating Physician Groups (PPGs), Hospitals, and Ancillary providers.

Providers can submit claims-related attachments via EDI healthcare claim attachment 275 transactions

Effective August 26, 2022, providers can submit claims related attachments via electronic data interchange (EDI) healthcare claim attachment 275 transactions. Sending attachments electronically offers a faster, more streamlined and cost-efficient process over mailing paper attachments on a paper submission. Examples of attachments are certificates of medical necessity (CMN), discharge summaries and reports to support a claim adjudication.

California Health & Wellness Plan (CHWP) teamed up with Availity® to offer a platform where healthcare providers and health plans can electronically submit claims-related attachments.

How to electronically submit claims attachments

All attachments submitted via the Availity portal must include the related claim(s).  To get started, complete your registration on the Availity portal.

  • Go to Availity portal and click Register at the top of the page.
  • Register your organization. Be sure to have your Tax ID (EIN) available.
  • Complete the new user registration and click Sign Up.
  • Next, follow the prompts to complete your registration.

Important note, Providers cannot submit attachments for claims that were submitted prior to July 10, 2022 to payer ID 95567. Those attachments will not correlate appropriately to the claim.
